restorative dentistry

With time, many people couldn’t manage to take care of all around oral health. Toothache, cavity, sensitivity are common dental problems which are result of incomplete oral care. Restorative dentistry is the solution for all the dental problems. Now, you’d be wondering what is restorative dentistry. Reading out this blog would help you understand the term thoroughly.

The process of restoring or treating unhealthy teeth that are accidentally affected or infected by diseases is called restorative dentistry. The process includes all kind of dental operations such as dental implants, bridge bonding, removable dentures, etc.

Application of restorative dentistry has two levels. One is repair and other is replacement.

Repair: When a tooth or teeth are in a condition where they can be repaired or treaded, such as slightly damaged or unwell teeth can be fixed by any dentist. When a tooth is damaged, it loses the protective layer (enamel) and cavities cannot be prevented, such patients have options of following repairing methods such as veneers or porcelain crowns.

Filling is another method of repairing teeth; people have reported that they are affected by cavity even after taking great oral care. If ignored, these cavities lead to damage the entire tooth. Here, restorative dentistry is applied to drill out the affect part and fill the space with dental material.

Replacement: The process of replacement in dentistry is done when the teeth are impossible to repair due to excessive dental decay or major injury. Professional dentists have many methods to perform this kind of restorative dentistry.

The traditional way of replacing a tooth is ‘denture’. A dental prosthetic is used to replace the infected tooth; this can be done both partially and completely in both lower and upper jaw.
These prosthetics can be full or partial and created for the upper or lower jaw.

Implants can be defined as advanced level of dentures. The process provides patients with a permanent solution. Dental implants are done with the help of titanium screws and can be applied on single or many teeth.

A very common treatment for missing teeth is ‘dental bridge’. It is done by constructing a bridge of two crowns with a fake tooth in the middle then it is placed on the adjacent teeth in order to fill the gap and to make it look natural too.

Teeth tend to get weaker and sensitive with growing age, the risk of damage and cavities also gets increased. Our eating habit of unhealthy and unhygienic food or improper oral care can lead to several dental problems. In any case, restorative dentistry can be done to fix any tiny or major dental problem and it restores our dental condition back to normal.
